Patient Safety Culture in Emergency Departments of Yemeni Public Hospitals: A Survey Study

Introduction: Quality and safety is an important challenge in healthcare systems all over the world particularly developing parts.
 Objective: This survey aimed to assess patient culture (PSC) emergency departments (EDs) Yemen identify its associated factors.
 Methods: A questionnaire containing Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) was distributed ED physicians, nurses, clinical, non-clinical staff at three public teaching general hospitals. The percentages of positive responses 12 dimensions summation PSC two outcomes (overall grade adverse events reported past year) were assessed. Factors with aggregate score analyzed.
 Results: finally, out 400 questionnaires, 250 (64%) analyzed. In total, 207 (82.3%) participants nurses physicians; 140 (56.0%) male; 134 (53.6%) less than 30 years old; had a university degree. Participants provided highest ratings for “teamwork within units” composite (67%). lowest rating “non-punitive response error” (21.3%). total 120 (48.1%) did not report any year 99 (39.7%) gave their hospital “excellent/very good” overall grade. There significant differences between hospitals’ EDs “handoffs transitions” (p=0.016), (p=0.018), “frequency reported” (p=0.016). Staff working intensive care units (8.4%, n=21) lower scores.
